Practical Mind Training

Study & Practice with Keith Rowan

In looking for fuller, happier lives we usually think to improve or change ourselves. If I were richer, smarter, thinner, famous, more successful ....basically, if I were someone other than who I am.

Mind training teaches that we don’t need to be essentially different to be happier. By working to recognise and embrace who we already are, we can discover unrecognised qualities and skills that naturally transform the way we live for the better.

The Buddhist word for ‘mind’ means something more like ‘heart/mind’. The ideas and training exercises in this weekly series of study and practice groups are profound. They will engage not just our thoughts and feelings but our entire self perception. They are all completely practical. They do not require belief but invite exploration. Each week different aspects of mind training will be studied and practiced.

All are welcome to attend - regularly or sporadically.

Cost: $4 per evening for non-members.

Getting Down to Basics

Informal study sessions with Keith Rowan.

We are thrown from womb to tomb - for what purpose are the bits in between?! These sessions are a chance to grapple with some basic questions about our lives and to see if and how the teachings of the Buddha offer any useful ways we might find answers.

Though the teachings of the Buddha start our discussions, the point is to deepen our understanding of how things actually are, not to promote any particular religious viewpoint.

The intention of the study sessions is serious but that does not preclude tea and chocolate cake.

Everyone is most welcome.

Cost $4 non-members Nelson Buddhist Centre members by dana.
